Description

De Padevoort Estate
“A country residence of princely allure, surrounded by a centuries-old moat”

Since time immemorial, the nobility sought the peace and tranquility of the countryside. There, they spent their days horseback riding, hunting, playing croquet or boules on the lawn, and attending elegant soirées. It was likely no different at Huis de Padevoort, a nobleman’s residence whose name was already mentioned in 1300. The name probably refers to a ford in a small river. The Van Padevoort family, part of the Bergh nobility, restored the house in the 17th century. For some time, it also served as a hunting lodge for the Count of Bergh.

The charming 17th-century house, complete with garage and orangery, is set on 11,365 m² of landscaped parkland and woodlands. Thanks to meticulous maintenance and a careful renovation in recent years, the estate is in splendid condition. Here, you can experience the grandeur and pleasures that make living on a historic country estate truly unique. The house nestles on the edge of the picturesque village of Zeddam and offers unobstructed views of its own grounds. The estate borders the Montferland forest, a stunning natural area of approximately 1,800 hectares.

A stately lane and an imposing gate with wrought iron fences lead to a charming courtyard in front of the house, where the garage is located and where guests can arrive and park. The house has been lovingly restored to its former glory and enhanced with modern comfort and conveniences.

The technical infrastructure is up-to-date and modern. Combined with authentic features like original beamed ceilings and thick castle walls, the result is a stylish and luxurious residence. The structure of the building was repaired and improved, a new kitchen and sanitary facilities were added, the hunting room was renovated, and the first floor now houses two large bedrooms and a beautiful master ensuite – all with private bathrooms in a romantic, original style. The attic was transformed into a full-fledged sleeping floor with two additional ensuite bedrooms. The result of all this work is nothing short of exceptional: De Padevoort has been reborn as an elegant and intimate family residence.

Upon entering the marble hallway—with living areas, kitchen, and hunting room to either side—you’ll immediately notice how livable and welcoming a stately home can be. The living areas exude an air of distinction while remaining surprisingly manageable in scale. Additionally, the house includes a wine and provisions cellar. Despite a generous living area of approximately 621 m², the home remains above all “homely,” a place where a family can live comfortably without feeling “lost.”

Nature, peace, and quiet
At the rear of the house lies a beautifully landscaped garden with a pond and waterwheel feeding the moat, as well as a stylish orangery with outdoor kitchen, accessible via the arched moat bridge. Mature deciduous trees and evergreen hedges provide privacy and tranquility.

Sightlines were crucial in the landscape architecture of the time—and still are today. De Padevoort enjoys unobstructed views to both the front and rear across tree-lined lanes and open fields. It lies at the edge of the charming village of Zeddam, hidden behind a grand entrance gate and ancient trees.

For equestrian enthusiasts, additional paddocks and stables are available for purchase.
